The Perfect Jane Austen Christmas Read!
I was hesitant to buy this book after seeing some reviews on it. However, I was continually intrigued until I finally gave in and bought it.
I cannot say this book was completely focused on Austen, and I am okay with that. It was fun to see where Austen was at in her personal life as well as her professional life during each of the Christmas's mentioned. I also enjoyed reading what Christmas was like during Austen's lifetime. It is interesting to see how much has changed in 300 years.
On the Christmas history side, I enjoyed all of the recipes listed, and I am eager to try some. I also intend on trying out some of the card games mentioned as well. I loved the quotes from various scholars, historians, personal letters, books from the Georgian/Regency era, etc. I felt it kept it very interesting.
I did notice a few typos in my edition, and I am not a grammar expert. I am sure there were many more that I didn't see, that a more trained eye would. The only content issue, that I was slightly disappointed by, was so much was mentioned about Eliza early on in this book, and how she would continue to inspire Austen. However, I didn't feel she was brought up enough later on in the novel/Austen's life to warrant so much time and attention earlier on in the book.
Overall, I am so happy I decided to purchase this book. It is a book I would like to reread in the future and take notes on, so I can go back for easier referencing. It is the perfect read for any Austen fan!
