Residue by Michael McGarrity

I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

I enjoy well written mysteries and saw this was part of a series, but I personally have never heard of the author or the series. Once I started, this book was hard to put down. I kept wanting to know what was going to happen next! The author must have an intimate knowledge of the area this story was set because his descriptions left you feeling like you could walk right into them. The little details were really engaging. I don't want to write too much about the actual story for fear of leaving any spoiler alerts, because this is one you want to read through to the end. There were twists; lot of twists.

The main character, Kevin Kerney, is someone you can't help but want to be innocent and if you are in a bad spot, someone to have on your side. His family is smart, adventurous and like people you want to know and have as friends. They are believable and struggle with real world issues that I think many can associate with. I also love the extended family of fellow law enforcement or military, both active and retired. The camaraderie was heartwarming. Not that Kevin could count on everyone-that's where all the twists come in. They really kept you guessing.

If I had anything negative to add, it would be that I had a very hard time following how many of the characters were actually connected or related to each other. The author does a great job of tying it all up in the end, but as the story was proceeding, I did have trouble keeping some of the characters and their connections straight.

All in all a very engaging read! Will be reading more by the author for sure!

I received this book through a giveaway hosted by Goodreads. All opinions are 100% my own.
