O.W.L.s Reading Wrap Up 2019
I enjoyed participating in the O.W.L.s Magical Readathon this April. I remained unaware of the readathon until N.E.W.T.s of 2018, so this was my first round of O.W.L.s.
I decided on a goal to read a book for each of the 12 prompts. Naturally my top two choices are Magiczoologist and Herbologist. Those prompts are so easy though, and I enjoy a challenge. So, I read for the first two thirds of the month, saw where I was at, reevaluated, figured out what subjects I still needed to read, found books, and focused the last third of the month reading as many of those as I could. I have had three different TBR stacks for this readathon: my initial one, my one made almost completely out of books to review, and my final one.
I finished a book for each of the 12 categories this time. This allows me to figure out which prompt I would like to go with. I am pondering Journalism, as that was the first challenge I completed, and it was up there for a career I would be interested in. A Hogwarts professor or Librarian would be fun. I believe G said her hardest prompt was an Alchemist, which kind of makes me want to try that. I am such a mood reader, that what I want as a career will probably change by the N.E.W.T.s announcement video.
Interestingly as well, my books can be divided up into four categories: books for other book clubs, The Great American Read list, Young Adult books, and books I received to review. Here is a list of the books I read, under each of these categories, as well as what class they passed.
Books for Other Book Clubs
The Annotated Northanger Abbey- Arithmancy
The Island of Sea Women- Herbology
The Great American Read Books
The Pilgrim’s Progress- Ancient Runes
Where the Red Fern Grows- Care of Magical Creatures
Memoirs of a Geisha- History of Magic
The Picture of Dorian Gray- Transfiguration
Young Adult
Starflight- Astronomy
Renegades- Defense Against the Dark Arts
This Splintered Silence- Divination
Legendary- Potions
Books to Review
Educated- Charms
The Girl He Used to Know- Muggle Studies
I enjoyed this readathon so much. I cannot wait for N.E.W.T.s. I want to plan my TBR. I am hoping G will do a mini readathon or two like she has over the past year.
